Beater Bike

I recently started working as an exhibit developer in Calgary. It’s a nice town but I soon discovered that without transportation, getting around would be quite a chore.
I quickly picked up a beater mountain bike on Craigslist, even though it did what I needed it to do, I really didn’t feel comfortable on it. (It actually wasn’t a bad bike, just not the bike for me) Fortunately Calgary has a number of bike co-ops, these placesĀ  are friendly, helpful and um.. great for the frugally minded.
I promptly joined The Good Life Community Bicycle Shop and The Bike Root and pieced together a bike over a weekend. It wasn’t much to look at but felt a load more comfortable to me than the mountain bike I picked up. In addition to helping me hunt down the various bicycle bits and pieces, I was able to use the tools and equipment at the co-ops to make sure everything was put together right.

The mountain bike is on permanent loan to one of my co-workers.
