New Museum Project Sneak Peek

It’s been a while since I’ve posted on the Museum project in Calgary.
Prototyping and fabrication are underway on a number of the galleries.
Soon you’ll be able to see the new Museum and exhibits in person!

My Pug recently had his 2nd birthday, and while I swore I’d never be one of those people who would dress up a dog or celebrate their special occasions, I found myself making him a special something for his special day. (Well at least I didn’t put him in a little cone hat and invite all of his dog buddies over for a party.) He used to have a sensitive stomach so I didn’t want to risk giving him a store bought ‘pet’ cake. I also knew that he’s scarf down whatever was placed in front of him so I wanted the cake to be similarly sized to one of his meals and made of ingredients that I knew wouldn’t upset his stomach.

So I ended up putting his kibble in a food processor and mixing it up with some apple and cottage cheese to form a crust. Next I put down a layer of yogurt (Biobest with active cultures!) mixed with some freeze dried cheddar cheese and some freeze dried liver chunks. I topped it off with some thinly cut carrot and used some freeze dried sweet potato and green beans as ‘candles’. yummmm

Well I just couldn’t pass up on the opportunity and the Felt TK2 is now part of my bike stable.
I know it’s not really the right adjective to use but it’s sooooo pretty!

New Museum Progress

Took a tour of the new museum site the other day. It had come a long way since the last time I visited the site back in March.

note: I did not participate in the design of the building, but I’m happy to be part of the team that’s filling it up.

Last Ride (of the season)

Well not really the last ride of 2010, but certainly one of the last really nice rides of the year.
Took a ride westward from the Beaches along Lakeshore to HighPark.

(yes, that is another one of my bikes. a Steve Bauer Scirocco. A Japanese made bike for a Canadian Brand. It was originally a $100 Craigslist find)

Wow,
The other day I was visiting my friend Peter at the Goodlifebikes and I saw this in the parking lot.
What a beaut, a 1965 Lincoln Continental, check out those suicide doors!
The steer horns brought back memories of Boss Hogg’s Cadillac.
(the car might bring back memories of the car in the Matrix where they suck that ‘bug’ out of Neo’s stomach, it was also a 1965 Lincoln)

The Surly Steamroller is now in Toronto.
I found this on Kijiji.
Fast and definitely made for the velodrome.

2007 Felt TK2 in my size, and in my budget…

note: it was also originally from a mountain biker who ended up not liking fixed gear.

Bicycle Built For Two

The bike project mentioned in this previous post had undergone a few changes over the summer. the basket assembly turned out to be a bit wobbly so I replaced it with another system that I cobbled together with an old Cetma rack and a folding storage crate. It works great! Plus the folding storage crate part is quite handy when giving people a lift.

Check out my enthusiastic passenger.

(note: I usually wear a helmet when cycling, these pics were taken during an initial trial ride.)

Surely Not Another Bike

Alright, perhaps I have a bit of a problem, but the beater bike in a previous post was replaced by another craigslist find. It is hard to pass up on these deals when they are practically new in condition and hundreds of dollars cheaper than retail.

The new bike in the stable is a Surly Steamroller, the previous owner is a mountain biker and wanted to try out fixed gear. He didn’t like it and put it up for sale. It has great components and a number of upgrades, plus it’s my size! I was hesitant about the mountain bike style tires but they are perfect for the Calgary environment.

How I found it

After a few a modifications (not yet complete in picture)
